Since the death of her husband over 20 years ago, Genevieve Prentice has fought to establish security for her four children. But when they all cancel on her for Thanksgiving, Genevieve has had enough. She gathers them to say that she has sold their childhood home and is moving to Colorado to open a lakeside resort with her sister, Helen. All of her children are shocked by this news, especially the oldest, Jake, who had filled a paternal role in the household. As Genevieve establishes her new life in Colorado, Jake endeavors to figure out who he is. To that end, he quits his job and establishes a connection with Tess, a former employee. As both Genevieve and Jake release themselves from the expectations of others, they find their own paths toward happiness. Readers looking for feel-good fiction about a big, loving family will enjoy this first installment in the Lake in the Clouds series. March creates believable characters, and the Prentice family is an easy one to spend time with.
