Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Finalist - Multicultural

God calls Latinas to lives of influence. He created his Latina daughters to partner with him, live into the incredible plans he has for each of us, and walk in his grace and strength to help change this world. But many of us have heard cultural messages that make us doubt our adequacy. We have not seen many Latina women in positions of leadership, and we need more mentors and role models.

Natalia Kohn, Noemi Vega Quiñones, and Kristy Garza Robinson share their own journeys as Latinas and leaders. They find mentorship in twelve inspirational women of the Bible including Esther, Rahab, Mary, and Lydia, who navigated challenges of brokenness and suffering, being bicultural, and crossing borders. As we deepen our spiritual and ethnic identities, we grow in intimacy with God and others and become better equipped to influence others for the kingdom. The insights here will help any who seek to empower Latinas in leadership.

You are not alone on this journey. Join your sisters and partner with our heavenly Father as you become the Latina leader God has called you to be.

Working as hermanas (sisters) together, authors Kohn, Vega Quiones, and Garza Robinson have crafted an impressive work of evangelical scholarship and inspiration for Latinas who may feel called to leadership in Christian ministry but feel unsure about their prospects. Representing a variety of Latinx heritage and experiences, the authors have solid rsums as faith leaders and ministry activists. Under the broad topics of "Identity and Intimacy" and "Influence and Impact," the authors take turns crafting a dozen chapters inspired by the stories of such biblical women as Esther, Rahab, and Mary and that explore specific themes, including faith, Christ's love, ethnicity, biculturalism, border crossing, leadership, and more. With women from the Bible providing a timeless context, the authors share pertinent aspects of their own lives and weave in transformative stories of Latinas they have encountered in their ministries. Each chapter ends with an invitation to the reader to meditate on her own experiences and sense of connection to the hermanas' stories. The authors address differences of perspective, experience, and opinion in their quest to strengthen Latinas in their faith, identity, and leadership skills and visions. An invaluable work about Latinas, faith, and community.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
