With many U.S. states and Canada legalizing marijuana for recreational use, this is a well-timed, quick read for any audience, although targeted to women. Furrer, a marijuana cultivator and critic for the Cannabist, is active in both growing marijuana and developing cannabis-based products for women's medical and recreational needs. An expert in the field, the author helpfully discusses the many compounds found in cannabis without going into a full chemistry lesson. By no means the first cannabis-focused book geared toward general readers, this one is different in highlighting the recreational aspects of marijuana, instead of its medical use. Perhaps because of this, it reads like it was written for middle-aged, primarily white women with money, time, and access--and no, or at least little, fear of criminal repercussion for use, something a large portion of our populace could never hope for, despite whether marijuana is legal in their state. VERDICT With recipes, dosing levels for first-timers, and how to talk to one's mom about using cannabis medicinally, this text covers many aspects of medicinal and recreational use. For women interested in a friendly, nonjudgmental means to learning more about cannabis use.--Rachel M. Minkin, Michigan State Univ. Libs., East Lansing
