Grades 2-5 Tailor-made for Garfield fans who aspire to create their own comics, this colorful book tells how to draw the famous feline and his friends. The large format offers plenty of room for sketches in various stages. A typical double-page spread presents a couple of drawing projects, each completed in three or four steps. Detailed instructions take kids through the process of depicting Garfield sitting or standing, while another page illustrates how his face and body change when he's angry, worried, excited, or happy. Shorter sections of the book give basic instructions for recreating the comic strip's secondary characters: Jon, Pooky, Arlene, and Nermal. In each multistage sketch, the completed lines are black, and the new lines are blue. While novices may be disappointed with their efforts, kids with more experience will be able to draw cats resembling Garfield. And with the familiar orange cat making quips along the way and three of Jim Davis' comic strips at the conclusion, it should be an enjoyable experience.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
